Sweet and Sour, is this a girl-oriented game?

The game

In Sweet&Sour, the player’s actions change the game’s art style and topic from neutral to crazily girly. The game gives players a creative space to interact with girl-oriented codes, encouraging reflection on gendered video games.

This project has two parts, the short video game “Sweet & Sour” and the master thesis titled: Understanding the Phenomenon of “Girl-oriented” Video Games.

Thesis

This master’s thesis explores the concept of video games designed specifically for the female demographic. This work categorizes and understands “Girl-oriented Games” through the analysis of game design aspects as well as visuals and storytelling. 

  • GameZ&RuleZ conference 2023

    The ongoing research was invited to take part in the conference about video games and Biedermeier.

  • ZHdK design Exhibition 2024

    The final game and research were presented at the diploma exhibition of ZHdK design.

  • Fantoche game Pop-Up 2024

    The game was presented at the fantoche festival in their new one day event.
